Time Blindness

Is "Time Blindness" Stalling Your Manuscript?

I sat down to write my blog piece for this week and realized... it was due last week.

How did I lose an entire week of my life? So cliché, but where on earth does the time go?

If you are nodding your head right now, welcome to the club. You’ve experienced time blindness. And let me tell you, it is one of the most common, silent killers of a writing career.

We map out our creative lives with the absolute best of intentions. We look at the blank page and tell ourselves a comforting lie:

“I’ll write a chapter this week. I’ll finish the draft next week. I’ll tackle the edits next month. I’ll definitely publish by the end of the year.”

And then? You blink, another calendar year evaporates, and that beautiful book idea is still sitting untouched in a desk drawer.

The "Someday" Trap

Time blindness happens because a book is a massive, overwhelming mountain. When an amateur looks at a mountain, they just see the peak. Because the horizon feels so far away, our brains trick us into thinking we have an infinite supply of "tomorrow" to get it done.

But tomorrow is a myth.

A book isn't written in a single, heroic weekend sprint. It is forged in the unglamorous, 15-minute pockets of a random Tuesday. It’s written when you are tired, when the coffee is lukewarm, and when you’d rather do literally anything else.

If you want to transition from dreaming about a book to actually holding it in your hands, you have to stop treating your writing schedule like a loose suggestion. You need a map, a hard constraint, and daily momentum.

Otherwise, "next week" will always morph into "next year."
